Aquatic Therapy

At LakeCross Veterinary Hospital, we use aquatic therapy for relaxation, fitness, physical rehabilitation, and other therapeutic benefits for cats and dogs in Huntersville.

What is Hydrotherapy for Pets?

Aquatic therapy is the use of exercise performed in water as a treatment method for helping to relieve pain and increase physical rehabilitation.

Buoyancy helps to reduce pressure on joints, and resistance provided from water exercise has been proven effective in increasing muscle strength and range of motion.

Uses for Aquatic Therapy

  • Rehabilitation after orthopedic surgeries
  • Rehabilitation after neurological injuries
  • Muscle strengthening
  • Improving joint function
  • Arthritis
  • Spondylosis
  • Hip dysplasia

The Process

The warm water temperature helps to provide joint and muscle relief while offering a safe physiotherapy method for muscle conditioning.

We will adjust the water depth based on the size of your pet and their specific needs.

Animals will often use their injured limb when supported by water, decreasing recovery time, and allowing them to rebuild their strength.

Aside from the therapeutic benefits, hydrotherapy also allows an outlet for your pet's energy that they can't otherwise use with an injury.
